Dear Wolverine family,
Harvard-Westlake’s parent support club for athletic programs is known as the Black & Red Club. The club’s mission is to enhance and improve student-athlete sport experiences through strong school-family spirit and enthusiasm during their competitions and contests. We would like to invite your family to join the club and get the SPIRIT this year! We have a big year planned.
We’re proud of our club’s achievements last year, including:
- Enrolling over 400 families (more than doubling the prior year’s membership);
- Providing important financial support to the Fanatics, Harvard-Westlake’s spirited student group known for its “pawsitive” pride, sharp-witted cheering and enthusiastic team-support. We enhanced their efforts and resources in organizing student fan support for sports across the board, including, field hockey, wrestling, and soccer;
- Underwriting some of the costs and assisting in the organizing of student rooter buses for important league and post-season games;
- The Black and Red Club Speaker Series, which kicked-off with the nationally-recognized sports’ psychologist Dr. Tom Crawford who spoke about “Parenting Your Superstar: How to be an Effective Sports Parent”; and
- Streamlining our important treasury function to each sports program, with the most noticeable result being a quicker reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred by parents (e.g., senior players’ gifts, pre and post season celebrations, etc.).
We need help to support our 28 athletic programs, involving student-athletes from 7th through 12th grade, who consistently bring positive local and national recognition to Harvard-Westlake School. Please complete the attached registration form to join. Annual family membership is $50. Your membership dues will be charged to your student’s account.
Black & Red Club’s managing committee includes: President - Allan Weaver (Coco ’09); Past President - Jeffrey Okano (Alex ’06, Chris ’08, Nick ’10, and Katrina ’11); Vice President - Dave Kenney (Chris ’10); Secretary – Betsy Green (Alexandra ’09, Andrew ’12); Treasurer - Teresa On (Janise ’07, Kevin ’11); Merchandising Coordinator - Rob Heltzer (Max ’11); and Membership Coordinator - Debbie Bulluck (Nate ’10).
