With this course, students begin the formal study of French. This introductory French course develops all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Teachers use a multiple approach geared towards the interests of Middle School language learners. The material of the course is pertinent to French and French-speaking cultures and includes the vocabulary and expressions for the following situations: meeting and greeting people; talking about time, date, and weather; talking about other people and one's family; and ordering and paying. In grammar, students learn definite and indefinite articles; nouns and adjectives; gender and personal agreement; present tense and common forms of verbs in er; as well as some irregular verbs such as être, avoir, and vouloir. The use of CDs at home is an integral part of the course.
