In this course, students continue to develop the following skills in Spanish: the ability to read, understand, and communicate orally and in writing by working with grammatical structures and vocabulary used in daily life. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of oral communication. Grammar topics include: accentuation; the present and preterit of regular, stem-changing, and irregular verbs; the present progressive; commands; contractions; ser<>estar; reflexives; possessives; negatives; comparatives; demonstratives; direct and indirect object pronouns; verbs like gustar; and the vocabulary of action words. The vocabulary practices the following situations: places, feelings, transportation, the family, animals, the house, sports, pastimes, clothes, numbers, vacations, personal care, places in the community, the body, school, food, and the environment. This course also explores the culture of Latin America and Spain
and the differences between English and Spanish-speaking peoples. A few
cultural topics include social customs, schools, food, times of meals,
and expressions of courtesy. |
