HALL OF ILLUSIONS

This is the online version of the HWMS Visual Art department's Visual Illusions Worksheet. This worksheet is initially used in the Visual Arts 7 curriculum as we exercise our apperception (our perception of perception) and our skills in analytical observation.

Students will be asked to examine illusions which reveal the strategies and behaviors of visual cognition while making both objective and subjective observations.

It is possible to complete this worksheet from the Tech Center, from other HWMS computer classrooms, or from home. But in order to be given credit for doing this assignment, your MS Word document should be finally stored on the HW server: My Documents > Visual Arts Projects > Your Class Section Folder

You may download a MS Word version of this worksheet from the MS Visual Arts 7 Course Materials page. It has hyperlinks which will guide you to the sites referenced here.

SEEING IS THINKING
Introduction to Visual Cognition

What we see ... and what we think we see ... is influenced by the way our mind and body process visual information. This process is called visual cognition, and it is not a passive activity.

Just as an artist organizes and composes a picture ... our brain, eyes, and nervous system automatically organize our awareness of what we see.

Artists who understand the way visual cognition works can use the "human operating system" (cognition) to make art based on the harmony between visual cognition and visual expression.
