Introduction to Wheel

The prerequisite for this Grade 9 class is one semester of Introduction to Clay.

The wheel class teaches the students how to prepare their clay and center it on the potter's wheel. Next, they open and raise the clay and shape the pot. When the pot becomes leather hard they can trim a foot on the bottom of the vessel. Later the work will be glazed and fired.
The students begin by making bowls, but they can challenge themselves to more difficult shapes when they are ready.

Skill Sequence

2. Opening the clay

3. Raising the wall

4. Shaping the pot

5. Trimming the pot
