SYA
France for the academic year 2006-2007: Emily Smith, Molly Porter,
and Monica Villar
Last update:

SYA students
spend an entire academic year in China, France, Italy or Spain,
living with host families, participating in community life and studying
the foreign language as well as its history, literature, art and
contemporary culture in accelerated classes from native instructors.
SYA is highly esteemed by language teachers and college admissions
officers around the country, and SYA graduates are regularly admitted
to the most competitive U.S. universities. The Chinese program is
the only one in the history of China to offer long term homestays
with Chinese families. A campus in Italy with a focus on Classical
Studies opened this fall (2001). All SYA campuses offer Math and
English courses that are taught by instructors on leave from SYA
member schools, as well as on-campus college counseling and a full
program of College Board and AP testing. Founded by Phillips Academy
(Andover), Phillips Exeter Academy and St. Paul's School, the SYA
network now includes 23 of the nation's top independent schools.
Harvard-Westlake is proud to be among them.
As an SYA member
school, Harvard-Westlake guarantees full academic credit for work
completed on an SYA campus. Sophomores and Juniors must apply by
February 15 for the following academic year. . Substantial scholarship
aid is available. For more information, contact Geoffrey Bird, Upper
School Foreign Language Department. See the SYA web site at www.sya.org.
