World History
We will begin by looking at the period prior to 1000 AD, but we will emphasize the period from approximately 1000 to 2000, with about half of the year devoted to world history from 1750 to the present. The era since 1000 is truly global in focus, embracing the empires of China and Mesoamerica; the expansion of Islam; the era of Mongol dominance; the period of new political units in Africa and Europe; and the impact of new cultures, societies, and long-distance trade. We will consider religion-Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity,
and others. The course will pay special attention to contacts among
societies as the core of world history and to the growth of different
cultures, including their art and literature. Full Year |
