Week 1 |
1.Get a 3- ring binder- this is a must! You will be given handouts and assignments to be retained by you. This will also be a notebook - sketchbook.(To be reviewed as needed) 2. Copy articles - build a reference file to expand your visual vocabulary, awareness, sensitivity. These may be shared and discussed during class. 3. Define what you perceive ( at this moment in time) your area of interest / focus will be. This will be a point of embarkation for your area of concentration. You must base your definition/explanation on the belief that the person(s) who are hearing this concept are hearing it for the first time. They have no frame of reference for it; they don't know what you are talking about. 4. Do sketches, you can incorporate other peoples ideas and expand upon them. 5. You must set up specific goals …the following is an example: Week One - throw and hand build 10 Raku forms, each with a different foot. Week Two - Glaze the 10 bisque fired forms with 5 glazes, fire 5 in oxidation and 5 in reduction. Week Three - Compare the different results and share the outcome with fellow classmates. Analyze the outcomes, outline and produce your next series. |

This will enable the mold to be a 2- piece mold. ASSIGNMENT: 2.Form the mold you have made you are to produce one cast form- one single perfect perfect form of your molded object using casting slip ASSIGNMENT: 3.Make a multiple cast form using either of the following 2- methods: 1. cast 3 or more of your molded objects and combine them using slip to join them into one object. 2. Use any 3 or more pre-existing molds to cast objects from and combine them using slip to join them into one object. ASSIGNMENT: 4. Week 9 |
GLASS FUSING-1st assignment -Cut circle from square -draw diagonals -find center at intersecting lines -find the measurement of the diameter on the circle cutter… the number on the left side of the black cutting “wheel” holder -find 4 marks on the suction cup -align the marks with the lines at the intersection -note the suction pressure handle -note the black ball to be held in hand …this allows rotation with a downward pressure applied to the tool to allow for even and adequate scaring of the glass -cut the circle using continuous pressure -cut tangent lines …8 evenly distributed are OK -tap the scared lines with the small ball end of the hammer -use the STRAIGHT breaker pliers only to break the glass from the inner circle -stack 2 circles for adequate thickness to place colors on -select colored glass and make a composition to be fused -break the “scrap” colored pieces into sizes as desired using a “mosaic” type composition -assemble into a pattern or composition -fire in kiln for fusing at cone 014 *you may use powdered glass… create this product with a hammer and a plastic or paper bag |
