We encourage you to get to know Harvard-Westlake through our school events and admission programs. All applicant families are welcome to any performance sponsored by the performing arts department or any sporting event hosted by our athletic teams. Please contact the Admission Office with any questions. For directions to either campus, please click here.
Applicants and their parents will have an opportunity to tour and visit the Middle School during a weekday interview (applicants for 7th grade) or during one of our weekend Family Visiting Days (FVD’s).
We also offer Weekday Parent Coffees at the Middle School and Upper School campuses. Please check the schedule for dates.
Weekday Parent Coffees
The Admission Office hosts Weekday Parent Coffees throughout the fall at the Middle School and Upper School. These information sessions are intended for prospective parents of students applying for admission in August 2017. You will have the opportunity to hear from the Director of Admission, faculty, deans, students, and current parents. Optional student-led tours of the Middle School/Upper School campus follow these Parent Coffees.
Please complete the admission inquiry form prior to making a reservation for a Parent Coffee. Because application to Harvard-Westlake is online, we will need your contact information in order to complete a reservation.
For reservations, please contact the Admission Office at email@example.com or 310.288.3200.

7th Grade Admission Interviews and Tours
Applicants for 7th grade will be interviewed during the week on the Middle School. An Admission Office representative will contact your family to schedule your interview once we receive the Application for Admission (to be completed by parents). We suggest you plan to be on our middle school campus for approximately 90 minutes.
Your visit will consist of:
9th Grade Admission Interviews and FVDs
Two Saturday Family Visiting Days (FVDs) for applicants to 9th grade are offered in the fall and winter. All Family Visiting Days are hosted at the Middle School.
The FVD Program for prospective 9th grade students includes an interview with a faculty member as well as separate presentations for students and parents. Parents will learn about Harvard-Westlake through a slide presentation, faculty panel, and student panel. They will have an opportunity to meet the faculty interviewer. Students will sit in on mini-classes and view the Harvard-Westlake slide show. Family Visiting Days for 9th graders will be held on December 10, 2016 and January 7, 2017. Reservations are required.
Reservations for Family Visiting Day are made only through the Online Application system. Please call our office at 310.288.3200 if you have any questions about registering online for Family Visiting Day.
All families of applicants to 9th grade and above are strongly encouraged to attend a Family Visiting Day; however, we can schedule a weekday tour and interview for families who cannot attend due to religious reasons or because they reside out of state. Please contact Ashley Ma at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a weekday tour and interview if you are unable to visit us during our established programs or if you reside outside of Los Angeles (requests must be made by January 8, 2017).
10th Grade Admission Interviews and Visits
We welcome applications for 10th grade. Once we receive your Application for Admission, an Admission Office representative will contact you to arrange a campus tour and interview on our Upper School. On the day of the interview, we may arrange a visit to one or two classes with an upper school student. These visits are scheduled on a space-available basis and are not a required element of the admission process.
In addition, 10th grade applicant parents are encouraged to attend a Weekday Parent Coffee at the Upper School. We look forward to speaking with you and thank you for considering Harvard-Westlake.
7th Grade HW Shadow Days
On select dates from November through mid-February, the Admission Office hosts 7th grade applicants for Shadow Days. A Harvard-Westlake Student Ambassador hosts each applicant. Applicants will visit two classes: either periods 1 and 2 or periods 3 and 4 at the Middle School. This schedule has been designed to offer applicants a Shadow Day visit with minimal disruption to elementary school schedules.
To request a Shadow Day, please complete the following steps:
Shadow Days at Harvard-Westlake are intended for applicants to gain insight into the daily student experience at Harvard-Westlake. Space is limited. If you feel you are already familiar with Harvard-Westlake through a sibling who is a student, please decline a Shadow Day and do not miss school. Please bear in mind, attending a Shadow Day does not improve your chances of admission, nor does declining a Shadow Day have negative impact on your chances of admission.
Spring Tours for Prospective Parents
The Admission Office will offer student-led group tours of the Middle School on select days in May from 9:00-10:00 a.m. These glimpses of our Middle School are intended for prospective parents of current 5th graders and current 7th graders. Parents will have an opportunity to chat informally with members of the Admission Office prior to the campus tour.
Please complete the Admission Inquiry form prior to making a reservation for a Spring Tour. Because application to Harvard-Westlake is online, we will need your contact information in order to complete a reservation.
For Spring Tour dates and for reservations, please contact the Admission Office at AdmissionEvents@hw.com or 310.288.3200. Our office will begin taking reservations in April for these Spring Tours.
Please check back in August for a schedule of admission information sessions.
