Letter from the President
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the online version of the 2011-12 annual report. The stories linked to this site should provide some insights into the extended Harvard-Westlake School family.
What this annual report is, really, is a compendium of thanks – to those who give, of course, but also to those who cheer us on; to those who find intergenerational bonds and friendships that bridge the years; to those who create new ways of being in touch with the wider world; to those who reflect with gratitude on what the school’s financial aid program made possible; to those who found their life’s work as students here.
Such stories are all made possible by a culture that is based on encouragement; an atmosphere where “let’s give it a try” is heard much more frequently than “no, you can’t”; a place where mistakes or unexpected outcomes can create opportunities rather than roadblocks. That’s the culture of Harvard-Westlake. It makes me proud.
I’m also proud of the growing number of alumni who support their alma mater. And I’m proud of our faculty and staff – once again, every single employee of this school chose to support it financially during the past year. And I’m proud of the parents, parents of alumni, and grandparents who not only give so much to our students and then find more to give to us. It’s heartening. It’s humbling. It’s Harvard-Westlake.
Thank you for what you do to make this the remarkable place that it is. I am abidingly grateful.
