Objective: To provide new and increased endowment support for compensation and professional development opportunities to attract and retain outstanding faculty and staff.
Impact: Unleashing an individual’s potential … the power to make the most of ourselves, intellectually and spiritually … this is what a Harvard-Westlake education is all about. Educators at Harvard-Westlake, many of whom could be found at the college level, are as interested in whom they are teaching as what they are teaching. Harvard-Westlake’s faculty and staff help students turn their dreams and aspirations into reality and, consequently, their successes into endeavors significant for all of us. Many donors choose to honor or memorialize a family member, friend or faculty/staff member through the naming of these endowed funds. Creating a new endowed fund or adding to existing funds demonstrates the importance of these educators who see the faces of the future through their countless interactions with students.
Faculty Development Endowment funds
These endowed funds encourage lifelong learning, by attending seminars and conferences, pursuing advanced degrees, and travel and study opportunities during the summer. Faculty and staff are revitalized, return with broadened outlooks, and acquire new abilities that translate directly into the classroom.
Faculty Salary Endowment funds
These endowed funds allow the school to maintain its compensation and benefits package so it can strengthen its allure and aggressively recruit superior faculty and staff candidates.
Thomas C. Hudnut Endowed Chair
This endowed fund recognizes the qualities of leadership exemplified by Tom Hudnut, Headmaster of Harvard School and Harvard-Westlake, 1987-2006, and currently President and CEO of Harvard-Westlake School. Most of the spendable income from this chair goes into the school’s salary budget, thereby increasing the pool of funds available to all teachers. A stipend is paid each year directly to the Head of Harvard-Westlake as a way of recognizing his/her excellence in school leadership.
Giving opportunities:

Faculty members at Harvard-Westlake, many of whom could be teaching at the college level, are as interested in whom they are teaching as what they are teaching. Indeed, the Headmaster has said that one of his jobs is to find "students and faculty who are worthy of one another."
Harvard-Westlake's faculty helps students springboard their dreams and aspirations into reality, and in turn, their successes into things significant for all of us. Educators see the face of the future through the countless interactions they have with students.
You can help Harvard-Westlake reward its distinguished teachers by naming an endowed Faculty Chair for $1.5 million. The annual yield from such a gift would help underwrite the teachers' salaries and provide funds for professional development opportunities in perpetuity.
Currently, there are four endowed Faculty Chairs at Harvard-Westlake. Choosing to establish an endowed Chair would guarantee an intrinsic element of the school's mission and encourage an important example to like-minded donors.
You can also help Harvard-Westlake reward its distinguished faculty by additional gifts to the Faculty Salary Endowment Fund and/or the Faculty Development Endowment Fund. The Faculty Salary Endowment Fund boosts the "salary pool" allowing the Heads of School to direct increases for particularly deserving teachers. The Faculty Development Fund invests in a broad range of professional development opportunities, ranging from curricular workshops to foreign travel.
