For the third time in four years, 40 of the nation's top high school baseball players will descend upon San Diego to play in the AFLAC All-American High School Baseball Classic, the country's premier high school baseball showcase. This year's game, featuring Austin Wilson '10, will be played Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. PDT in PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres, and will be nationally televised live on FOX Sports Net. Gavin McCourt '09 was selected in the 39th round of Major League Baseball's amateur draft on Thursday by the Boston Red Sox. McCourt just finished his senior season at Harvard-Westlake, earning 1st Team All-Mission League honors for the first time in his career. McCourt finished the season with a .388 batting average as the Wolverine lead-off hitter.
Gavin was a three-sport athlete during his time at Harvard-Westlake, also playing on the football and soccer teams.

Robert Lynn has been named head water polo coach for Harvard-Westlake School. He replaces Larry Felix, who left the position in March. Lynn will oversee the boys’ and girls’ programs.

Runner Lizzie Danhakl '07 was recently recognized as an All-American at the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio. Locally, soccer player Maddie Lenard '09 also earned honors, including Athlete of the Year by the Chronicle, Harvard-Westlake's school newspaper.
Both Danhakl and Lenard were mentioned in a recent article in the Palisadian-Post.

Shelby L. '09 was recently named a "Renaissance Teen With Purpose" by the Jewish Journal. Shelby was noted for turning her jewelry-making hobby into more than $70,000 for a Jewish World Watch campaign to provide solar cookers to women in Darfuri refugee camps.
