Harvard-Westlake is strongly committed to enrolling the most talented student body in the Los Angeles area. We realize that a Harvard-Westlake education, while an excellent investment in your child’s future, represents an expense that is well beyond the reach of most families. Even relatively well-to-do families need to explore creative ways of making Harvard-Westlake affordable, and the school offers a variety of payment plans.
The school also offers financial aid to eligible families in the form of outright tuition grants. A total of $5 million is allotted for aid in 2007-2008. Among the largest secondary school financial aid budgets in Southern California, Harvard-Westlake commits approximately 10% of the school’s entire operating budget to provide assistance to over 200 students, a figure that HW is committed to expanding in future years.
In addition, Harvard-Westlake’s program goes well beyond tuition grants. We also cover all student fees, books, and school supplies, including necessary expenses incurred for any official school activity. These could include basic equipment for a sport or an art class or coverage of transportation expenses on a required class or team trip. Each financial aid student also receives a yearly draw account for items such as cafeteria food or bookstore purchases. Total additional yearly aid per student exceeds $3,000.
Financial aid at Harvard-Westlake is completely need-based. We do not give merit scholarships or athletic scholarships to students whose families can afford the tuition. Instead, we seek to meet our students’ full demonstrated need.
