Kocol Promoted to Associate Head Coach
Harvard-Westlake baseball program head Matt LaCour has announced the promotion of assistant coach Alex Kocol to associate head coach.
“Coach Kocol has been an integral part of our program for the last two years and I am excited to announce his promotion. His ability to work with and teach our players is second to none”, LaCour said.
Kocol joined the Harvard-Westlake staff in 2007 after a one-year stint as the head baseball coach at University High School in Santa Monica. In his only year at his alma mater, Kocol returned the Wildcats to the playoffs for the first time in 3 years.
“Alex has really done a tremendous job of getting to know our school and the kids that we work with in each level of our program. The amount of time and energy that he puts into us becoming an elite program has earned him the distinction of being associate head coach”, LaCour

Nik Turley ’08 Signs With The Yankees
Nik Turley will begin his professional baseball career on Friday July 31, 2008 when he reports to Tampa, Florida, the spring training home of the New York Yankees, his new employer. The Yankees acquired the rights to Turley in the June amateur baseball draft when they took the 6’4” left hander in the 50th round. By becoming a professional player Turley will forego his eligibility at Brigham Young University. The Yankees offered a sizable signing bonus (6th round slot money) and will pay for Turley’s college education. Congratulations Nik!
