Images
in your section should adhere to the following guidelines:
- If
you are using photographic images of identifiable people, you
must obtain written permission for
their use.
- Images
should be optimized for the Web so that they are not of a large
K size that takes a long time to load. Test your site on a computer
with a dial-up Internet connection to see if any images are too
large and take a long time to load. See how large your file is
in your graphics program. If it is more than about 30 K, see if
you can reduce its size.
- Use
gif images for type and illustrations. For photos or graphics
with fine tone gradations, use jpg files.
- See
the Yale
University Web Style Guide for a complete discussion of Web
images and how colors work on the Web.
- Images
for use in this space should not exceed 380 pixels in width. See
the page layout guide.
- Images
for use as a thematic photograph (such as the one at the left
of this page) should not exceed 100 pixels in width.
- Consider
"slicing" large graphics into smaller pieces to reduce
loading time. Images can be sliced in such popular graphics programs
as Macromedia
Fireworks or Adobe Photoshop.
- Check
out the design resources section
to access some useful Harvard-Westlake imagessome that are
Web-ready and some that you can use in graphics programs to create
your own Web graphics.
