Digital Millennium
Copyright Act of 1998 - establishes limitations for copyright
infringement liability for online service providers. The
DMCA specifies requirements for notice (provided by the service
provider) and takedown (by the service provider of the alleged
infringing material).
Fair use
of copyright works (Copyright Act of 1976) - Fair use exemptions
to copyright law apply when course web pages are used exclusively
for educational purposes. This may be done by acknowledging
sources, restricting access, obtaining permission or license for
use, or some combination of all of these.
Federal
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 - insures
the confidentiality of students' education records and restricts
disclosure to or access by third parties, except as authorized
by law.
