Entering a New Era at Harvard-Westlake

The Middle School Modernization Project, expected to be complete in spring 2009, will result in an optimal academic environment for current and future students. Plans include a new campus layout that harmoniously incorporates new buildings into the existing campus landscape and the neighborhood; replacing several existing structures with modern classroom, administrative and arts buildings; expanded athletic-field space and improved parking and traffic flow onto the campus.

Right now, roof tiles are being applied to the library-science building; they're already in place on the academic building.

The exterior walls of both new buildings are almost complete. Connections to public utilities are underway.

During the week of June 2, the existing music building and library were demolished, and most of the trees in the center of campus were removed to make way for the new fire road and expanded athletic field.

The image here was taken today, and shows one side of the new academic building; on the far left are the 9th grade deans' offices, and further to the right is the outdoor dining area which adjoins the cafeteria.

Hard-Hat Tours Provide the Best View of Construction Progress

Pictured here is a recent aerial photograph of the Middle School construction. At this point in the construction timeline, the rapid progress is now taking place inside the new academic and library-science buildings.

Touring the new buildings is fun. If you'd like to see the progress in person, please contact Susan Leher '96 in the Office of Advancement to schedule a hard-hat tour.

At left is a recent aerial photo depicting the latest middle school construction progress.  The new buildings look nearly complete from this view, but there's much more going on below roof level. The academic building, with the new, state-of-the-art auditorium, is on the left side of this image. The library science building is on the right.
