Are you a film buff? A foodie? A sports fanatic? Do you love current events? Do you like to voice your opinions about anything and everything? Have you ever wanted to get your written work published or get yourself broadcast over the airwaves? If so, then this is the course for you! This two-week Intro to Journalism Camp will give you basic skills and knowledge in journalism, covering topics from the history of journalism to where journalism is headed in the future, and everything in between. Through a variety of exercises and field trips, you will gain hands-on experience writing news articles, opinion pieces, restaurant and entertainment reviews, and sports coverage articles. Together, we will have lunch at a restaurant, view a film screening, attend a baseball game, and visit newsmagazine headquarters and news radio stations. You will learn to be great reporters, interviewers, and editors for school publications, and will also learn how to be broadcast reporters for podcasts and radio news programs. Finally, you will learn the basics of production, both print layout and broadcast. Sound too good to be true? Check out the camp for yourself and then use your skills to write for The Spectrum or create your own radio station!
