Journalism Bundle

Journalism for Print and New Media

Whether you want to be a newspaper or yearbook journalist, this two-week intensive program is for you. We cover all the basics, including interviewing and reporting techniques; laws and ethics of high school journalism; narrative writing for newspapers and yearbooks including news, sports, features, opinion, blogs, editorials and reviews; and more. You will have in-class time to practice what we teach, and we’ll create a newspaper, articles for Chronicle Online, and  podcasts in class. The program is led by Kathleen Neumeyer, Gold Key Adviser to Harvard-Westlake's award-winning newspaper The Chronicle, and Jen Bladen, adviser to Harvard-Westlake's award-winning yearbook Vox Populi. Classes will be held in the upper school Chronicle and Vox newsrooms (Weiler Hall 104/106/108). Concurrent enrollment in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign for Journalism is strongly recommended.

Adobe Photoshop and InDesign for Journalism

Whether you want to be a newspaper or yearbook journalist, this two-week intensive program is for you. We cover all the basics, including beginning and advanced page and spread design; color theory; photography and photojournalism for both digital and print media; Photoshop and InDesign; and more. You will have in-class time to practice what we teach, and we’ll support the work of the Journalism for Print and New Media class with photos and newspaper production. The program is led by Kathleen Neumeyer, Gold Key Adviser to Harvard-Westlake's award-winning newspaper The Chronicle, and Jen Bladen, adviser to Harvard-Westlake's award-winning yearbook Vox Populi.
