The Library and Information Technology Department’s six-year program fosters the development of the skills necessary for students to succeed in their academic classes at Harvard-Westlake. Through formal classroom teaching and one-on-one instruction, students learn how to acquire, analyze, organize, evaluate, utilize and present information in a 21st century world. Research skills are taught using both print and electronic resources. The librarians work collaboratively with academic departments to ensure that the skills taught are applied and reinforced. The foundation of the six-year program begins in 7th grade with the required Library and Technology 7 course. This course lays the foundation for basic academic requirements and more advanced technology courses offered in other Middle and Upper School departments.
