We encourage you to get to know Harvard-Westlake through both school events and Admission Office events.

Athletic and performing arts events

All applicant families are welcome to any performance sponsored by the performing arts department or any sporting event hosted by our athletic teams. Please contact the Admission Office with any questions.

Admission-related Events

Applicants and their parents/guardians will have an opportunity to tour and visit the Middle School during a weekday interview (applicants for 7th grade) or during one of our weekend Family Visiting Days (applicants for 9th grade).

Admission Coffees for parents/guardians

The admission office hosts weekday Admission Coffees for Parents/Guardians throughout the fall at the Middle School and the Upper School.  These information sessions are intended for parents/guardians of prospective students applying for admission in 2020. You will have the opportunity to hear from the director of admission, faculty, deans, students, and parent ambassadors. We offer optional student-led tours of the middle school or upper school as part of these events.

Please complete the admission inquiry form at your earliest convenience, as it is required before visiting Harvard-Westlake. The Application for Admission (step 1 of the online application) does not need to be submitted before registration for a Coffee.

Seventh Grade Shadow Days

On select dates from November through mid February, the Admission Office hosts 7th grade applicants for Shadow Days. A Harvard-Westlake student ambassador hosts each applicant. Applicants will visit two classes at the Middle School. This schedule has been designed to offer applicants a Shadow Day visit with minimal disruption to elementary school schedules.

To request a Shadow Day, please complete the following steps:

  • Complete the Application for Admission (step 1 of the online application) and submit application fee or fee waiver.
  • After your interview visit has been scheduled, please send a request to shadowdays@hw.com with applicant’s name in subject line. Please include in your email: student name, grade applying for, and sending school.

Shadow Days at Harvard-Westlake are intended for applicants to gain insight into the daily student experience at Harvard-Westlake. Space is limited. If you feel you are already familiar with Harvard-Westlake through a sibling who is a student, please decline a Shadow Day and do not miss school. Please bear in mind, attending a Shadow Day does not improve your chances of admission, nor does declining a Shadow Day have a negative impact on your chances of admission. These visits are extremely limited in number, and a shadow day request is reviewed after an interview appointment has been scheduled.
