Harvard-Westlake’s visual arts department seeks to inspire fresh perspectives, provide an understanding of the role of art in contemporary culture, and encourage creativity and authenticity.
Our intimate studio classes focus on disciplines including drawing, painting, photography, filmmaking, animation, graphic design, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, and glass-blowing, allowing students to develop both technical proficiency and a grasp of the creative process. By making art, students learn to explore their own ideas and experiences and express themselves visually.
Mission Statement
The Visual Art Department is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive community where creativity, curiosity, and belonging thrive within the ongoing development of artistic voice. We provide a sanctuary for students to explore and express their personal histories, interests, perspectives, and experiences, cultivating a practice rooted in skillful making, integrity, and empathy. Recognizing that art is a powerful force that transcends disciplines and touches all aspects of life, we encourage purposeful expression that challenges the status quo, impacts our community, and transforms the way others see the world.
