Greetings Alumni!
The end of the school year is approaching, but we are around during the summer.
In addition to planning events for the upcoming school year, we love seeing alumni on campus. Touch base with us (our emails are below) if you’d like to visit.
It’s Been a Fun and Busy 2012-13
This year we’ve hosted regional alumni receptions in Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and New York City. We also held a great local reception at the Bel-Air Bay Club – more than 400 people attended! In addition to receptions, we have a variety of affinity groups tailored to the interest of our alumni, and these groups have all held meetings and events during the year.
We also have the HW Works program – managed by Harry Salamandra! It’s a complimentary resource for all alumni who are looking for work, mentorships or internships. It’s also a place where you can post jobs and internships you’d like to fill with a Harvard-Westlake alum or student. Joe Cha ’87 visited this spring and made a terrific presentation to students about what to look for in an internship or job, as well as tips on applying and interviewing.
The Alumni Website
This website is where you can find information on everything we do to support our alumni, as well as a place where you can update your contact information and search for long-lost classmates.
Inspiring Letter from a Current Student
The end of the school year is also the end of our fiscal year (June 30). We know you have choices of how to spend your dollars but any support you can provide Harvard-Westlake truly makes a difference. The collective gifts of our alumni community make an impact on our students and your school each and every day.
To see what we mean, we encourage you to visit our Share Your Story website and read the letter written by Aiyana White ’14, a rising HW senior, describing what financial aid has enabled her to do. If you’d like to make a gift before June 30, please click here.
100% of Faculty and Staff Support the School
Contributions to the school are tax-deductible. Last year, alumni giving reached an all-time high with 20% participation. This year, we want to further close the gap between alumni and faculty/staff giving, which reached 100% participation for the fourth year in a row last year and is on the verge of 100% this year. Your favorite teachers contribute something each fiscal year to improve Harvard-Westlake; won’t you consider doing the same?
Stay Informed, Post a Note About Yourself
Check the HW Alumni Association Facebook Group – that's where we post photos from events, and where you can share your latest news. The monthly alumni e-newsletter is full of useful information. Most months we include a faculty column – nothing like hearing from a former teacher who's now speaking to you as a friend and sharing fun anecdotes!
We’ve started including alumni profiles, too; it's a great way to learn about the diverse and interesting things your fellow alumni are doing. Not getting the newsletter? Let us know by emailing us and we’ll make sure to update your email. Archived newsletters can be found here. Last but not least is the Chronicle website. Our students do a terrific job of covering everything that goes on at school, and they also write during the summer.
Thanks for logging on and please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. We’re here to help!
Gratefully,
