Baseball

Summer baseball for players (Grades 9-12) runs from June 8 -July 21. The Wolverine Baseball Camp will take place June 13-16 and July 11-14 at O'Malley Family Field. Travel baseball opportunities are available throughout the summer for middle school players (Grades 7-8). Cheerleading

Equestrian

Students with a desire to compete in hunter/jumper/equitation and/or dressage at any level are invited to ride for Harvard-Westlake. There are no tryouts for this team. Requirements include access to a horse anda willingness to partake in four IEL shows per year.

Fencing

The summer fencing program is for beginning students who wish to discover the sport of fencing.

It takes place during the week of June 22, through the 26th. Morning session 10:00am through 12:00 noon. Afternoon session 1:00pm through 3:00pm. No experience is necessary and all equipment is provided. Wear a t-shirt, warm-up pants, and athletic shoes. The class is taught by Fencing Master Ted Katzoff. Field Hockey

Incoming and returning field hockey players should take advantage of our summer camp August 1-5 at Ted Slavin Field at HW’s upper school campus. This is a great way to sharpen your skills and prepare for tryouts. We will also be holding open practices for HW 9th through 12thgraders in the month of July every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5:30-7:30 pm at the upper school field.

Varsity Tryouts will be August 10th-12th, and the Varsity team will continue to practice every week day following try outs from 5:30-7:30 pm at the upper school until school starts. The Varsity team will also likely travel over Labor Day Weekend to Orlando, Florida to participate in the KSA Field Hockey Tournament at the Disney Sports Center.


JV and Freshmen Tryouts will be August 15 and 16 from 530-730 pm at the upper school. The JV and Freshmen teams will then practice at the upper school every evening from 530-730 pm until school begins.

Football

Summer practice for new and returning high school players (grades 9-12)starts July 5th at the upper school from 8:00-11:30am, Monday-Thursday. Middle school players (grades 7-9) are encouraged to attend the Wolverine Football Camp June 13-16th at the upper school. Golf (Boys)

Boys planning to golf on the JV or Varsity teams are encouraged to play throughout the summer. There are junior programs, tournaments, and lessons available throughout Southern California. Please contact Coach Tony Kewal at tkewal@hw.com if you have any questions

Golf (Girls)

Girls interested in playing golf are encouraged to work on their game during the summer through golf camps, personal instruction and junior tournaments.Our program not only stresses skill development, but also the importance of mental mastery and decision making on the course.We offer strength and conditioning throughout the year.

Official tryouts for the 2016 season will begin the week of August 4 and will consist of skill contests, playing scores and participation in strength and conditioning. Players not making Varsity will be placed on the Junior Varsity team where they can continue to develop.

Lacrosse

Harvard-Westlake will be offering a summer camp for 5-12th graders from June 27-30. All current lacrosse players should be active in summer recreational lacrosse or other Harvard-Westlake sports. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Coach Erik Krum at ekrum@hw.com

Soccer (Boys)

All Harvard-Westlake prospects, incoming and returning middle school soccer players are encouraged to attend one or more Wolverine Soccer summer camp sessions, June 13-17. Soccer (Girls)

Girls soccer players are encouraged to attend the Wolverine Soccer summer camp session.The summer camp will run from July 18-21. Softball

Incoming and returning softball players are required to train with the team twice per week in the summer in addition to their club teams. The team will lift in the weight room for an hour and then have offensive training at The Upper School. Please contact Softball Program Head Melanie WIlliams (mwilliams@hw.com) for more details.

There will be an informational team meeting on September 5, at 3:00 PM at the Upper School. Training class starts on September 21.All softball players are required to attend the softball training class in the fall and winter trimesters.

Swimming & Diving

Swimmers planning to swim on the JV or Varsity teams in 2016 are encouraged to swim throughout the summer. The Wolverine Swimming Camp will take place on August 4-7, 11-14 in the Copses Family Pool on the HW Upper School campus. In addition, there are camps and clubs throughout Southern California. Contact Coach Jason Schwartz at jschwartz@hw.com or at 818-481-4845 for recommendations. Fall training classes for high school students begin when school resumes. The middle school swim season will start August 28th.

Tennis (Boys)

Tennis (Girls)


Try-outs for JV and Varsity will be August 15– 17 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm and August 18& 19 will be practice or continued try-outs if necessary.This is not for returning Varsity Players but MANDATORY for all incoming and JV players.

Full Practices with both teams will begin August 22 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Monday, then 2:00 -4:00 pm for the rest of the week.

7-12th graders are encouraged to attend one or both of our summer camps which will allowed for continued work on your skill development. You can contact AD Darlene Bible at dbible@hw.com for more specific information.

Continue to play in Tournaments. US players should compile any tournament information you participated in and bring to the first day of Try-Outs.

Middle school try-outs will be after school August 30 and Sept. 1 3:30–5:30 pm with transportation from school to courts and back.

Track & Field

Summer workouts (grades 9-12) will be held throughout the summer. Incoming 7thgraders and returning 8thgraders are encouraged to attend the Track and Field and Speed camps. Volleyball (Boys)

Boys Volleyball:

Incoming and returning 7th, 8th and 9th graders interested in playing volleyball next spring are encouraged to play beach volleyball over the summer and are encouraged to attend college summer camps. Training for high school students (grades 9-12) begins in December. The middle school season begins in February. Volleyball (Girls)

Incoming 7th, 8th,and 9thgraders are encouraged to attend the Wolverine Volleyball camp session to be held July 25-28 9am – 2pm. The team tryouts for rising Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors is June 15-17 from 10am-12:30pm in Taper gym located on the upper school campus. We will evaluate any new students to HW on August 1st if they cannot make it to the June tryouts. Water Polo(Boys)

Summer practice for incoming and returning water polo players will be held throughout the summer. Practice will be at the Harvard-Westlake Upper School Copses Family Pool from June 13th-August 1 and resume on August 14th through the fall season. There are two training levels that will be held Monday-Friday. Level 1, for all new and novice athletes, will run from 10:15am-12:30pm and Level 2 training will run from 8:15am-11:15am. Athletes that are trying out for the varsity team are required to attend summer practice The Wolverine Water Polo camp will be June 16-20 at the Copses Family Pool. Water Polo(Girls)

Summer practice for incoming and returning water polo players will be held throughout the summer. Practice will be at the Harvard-Westlake Upper School Copses Family Pool from June 13th-August 1.
